    Yes you sure can!

  3. jays_mom says:

Yes you can, my son has his fathers last name, you have to make sure the father signs the birth certificate…then no problem

You can give your son your neighbor’s last name if you want. You are free to give him any name you want. Anyone who tells you not to give him the father’s name because you aren’t married is not coming for a legal standpoint. Legally, you can name your child whatever you wish–even in North Carolina!

    Congrats on the baby.

Of course you can, I gave my child her fathers last name before we were married and didn’t have any problems.

Sure, my fiance had to sign a paper stating that he was the father and accepted all responsibility that goes with that, but you can certainly give your son his daddy’s name.

my husband and i got married after we had our daughter. i was able to put his last name on the birth certificate when she was born. the hospital recorder had my husband sign the birth certificate and an official statement stating that this was his child and he was aware that she had his last name. call the birth certificate office of the hospital you will be delivering at they can answer all those questions.

no, just be sure he’s on the birth cert. that’s bindind no matter what. not even a blood test can get you out of the responsability. there are laws tryin to change this. use your name, cause you never know what the future brings. you can give a child either parents last name……………..

i’m from south carolina. here you can give the baby your last name or the father’s last name.but as long as the father signs the paternal papers b/c that shows that he is aware of the child being his and having his last name legally applied to another person. that shows his consent.

ya you can. my son has his fathers last name and we arent married.

  12. Jo says:

i had my dads last name and him and my mom have never and will never be married

As far as I know, what ever you list on the birth certificate is what the baby’s name will be…so if you put the father’s last name as your baby’s last name….that’s what it should be. I have a friend who is married, lives in NC, but still uses her maiden name. All her children have her husband’s last name. You shouldn’t have a problem, just make sure the person fillout out the birth record puts down the information YOU want.

You can give your son his fathers name as long as neither one of you are married to someone else. If you are married to someone else (even if your seperated legally) or your boyfriend is; the baby cannot have his last name.
